Selkirk Lake Cottage Rental General Rules
To keep our cottage safe, clean and enjoyable we ask Guests to follow these requirements. Although we arrange for housekeepers and maintenance we ask that you take extra care to keep the property in good condition. Occupancy is further regulated by our Terms and Conditions posted here and in the cottage.
COTTAGE LOCATION
The cottage is located on Selkirk Lake 127th Ave, Shelbyville, MI 49344,

RENTAL DURATION AND RATES
The cottage is available for rent by the week from friday to friday. Rental by the week is $750 + any other fees as accounted for below. Other rental options may be available. Please contact us for other options.
RESERVATION FEE
Each reservation made will have a security deposit of $100. Deposits must be received within 14 days after reservation was made to confirm reservations. All deposits will be returned after final inspection and with in 30 days after departure as long as no loss has been incured from you or your guest as accounted for but not limited to the general rules. Any reason found to cause forfeit of deposit will be mailed to you for your review.
FINAL PAYMENT
The final balance due must be paid in full 30 days before your arrival date.
MAKE PAYMENT
Payments may be in the form of cashier’s check, bank money order or personal check made out to Dolores Rohloff 8929 N. 14th St Kalamazoo, MI 49009
CANCELLATIONS
In the event of a cancellation of a confirmed reservation for any reason, we must be notified in writing within 60 days of your rental week. We will make every reasonable effort to re-rent the cottage. If the cottage is re-rented for the original week and amount, you will receive a refund of the deposit payment less 10% of the total rent. If re-rented for less than the original amount, you will receive the balance of the deposit payment less 10% of the total rent and minus the difference of the two rental amounts not to exceed the original $100 deposit. All refunds will be made within 60 days of the receipt of the new reservation deposit. If the property is not re-rented, no refund will be paid.
BADWEATHER
No refunds will be give for any weather related problems.
RETURNED CHECKS
There will be a $40 processing fee for all returned checks.
CHECK IN/OUT TIMES
CHECK-IN
Check-in time is between 3 PM and 6 PM. Early check-ins are not available. If you are unable to check-in during this time period, please call us in advance to make arrangements. We cannot provide for late check-in if your balance has not been paid in full.
CHECK-OUT
Check-out time is 11 AM Please observe this rule, as our housekeeping staff needs time to prepare for our next guests. Upon leaving, please secure all windows and doors, wash dishes, and remove all trash. Place trash in the dumpster on Raymond Blvd. on your way out. KEYS One key will be issued at check-in. A $15.00 charge per key will be deducted from your security deposit for keys not returned.
CHECKLIST
Upon arrival Guests are often given Guest Checklists to make sure everything is in order.
OCCUPANCY
Guest Terms & Conditions limit occupancy to 6 persons, excluding children of the renter under the age of 12. Exceeding limits will result in extra per person daily charges and will terminate occupancy without refund of deposits, rents or other charges. We will not allow overcrowding of the cottage beyond the existing bedding. No RVs, campers or mobile homes may be parked on the premises for the purposes of extra sleeping capacity without prior approval. Extra fees will be applied. $20 per camper per night.
NO DAILY MAID SERVICE
Linens and bath towels are included in the cottage. We suggest you bring beach towels. We do not permit towels or linens to be taken from the cottage.
PARTIES OR GATHERINGS
Parties or gatherings are allowed with prior approval after rental amount has been paid in full, A gathering or party that disturbs neighbors or violates cottage rules or local ordinances will result in guests evicted for violating property or rules and forfeit of their deposit/reserve.
NOISE
The cottage is for recreational use by individuals and families and is not rented for parties unless specifically authorized in writing. As courtesy to neighbors or other guests, please observe quiet at all times especially during the Quiet Zone 10pm and 10am (excluding 4th of July). Be a good neighbor.
NO SMOKING
There is no smoking in the cottage. If you desire to smoke, smoke outside and depose of any cigarette butts in a safe and proper manner. Violations will result in a $50 fee per occurrence.
BEHAVIOR
Inappropriate behavior such as loud and/or vulgar language and/or drunkenness is strictly prohibited. Guests evicted for violating property or rules will forfeit their deposit and any money paid.
PETS
Pets are welcome, however please keep your pet on a leash, or near you at all times. Do not allow your pet to disturb the neighbors. Please walk your pet into the woods to doodie. If you have a pet allergy please contact us so that they may verify the last time a pet was at the cottage. If you bring a pet additional deposits may be required. All pets must be registered with us and be current on all shots. Pet owners will be financially responsible for damages and extra cleaning. Limit 1 dog.
AREAS, CAMPGROUND & MOBILE-PARK
Other rules apply for geographic areas, campground & mobile-park.
BOATS
You are welcome to bring your boat. Please be aware of Michigan DNR and Selkirk Lake specific boating laws. There is a public boat landing on the south end of the lake. We have a small dock for your use and plenty of beach space to park your boat.
RECREATIONAL VEHICLES
Unless specifically authorized in writing, all terrain vehicles are not allowed at properties, or in driveways, garages or elsewhere at the property. Violators will be charged a fee of $50 per occurrence and the vehicles will be towed at the guests expense.
GOLF CARTS
You are welcome to bring your golf cart to travel on the driveways owed by the Campground. Please don't drive in the mobile home park. Stay on driveways and drive at a slow, safe, and cautious speed. Driving golf carts on county roads is unlawful. All golf Carts are to be operated by an adult. Operation of golf Cart is done at your own risk.
FURNISHINGS AND EQUIPMENT
The cottage is furnished for normal housekeeping with dishes, cookware, flatware, glasses, grills and basic appliances. Please leave grill on the deck. We are also pleased to provide bed linens, dish detergents, bath soap and paper products.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BATH AND BEACH TOWELS
Please be sure to pack any specialty items that you may require during your stay. Porta-cribs, floaties, beach chairs, beach umbrellas and towels.
TRESPASSING
All properties are private property. Guest are to confine themselves to walking paths, paved roads and roadsides. Please do not pick plants or flowers.
WASTE DISPOSAL
Never leave garbage outside the cottage unless it is in a tightly covered container. All garbage must be removed from the property at the end of your rental period. Please take trash to dumpsters located in the campground. If you clean fish, please bury the remains in the woods or put them in 2 tightly sealed plastic bags and dispose of them in the approved garbage containers. Any garbage left at the cottage premises will result in a $50.00 disposal charge.
UTILITIES
Please turn off lights, televisions, etc. when not in use.
OPERATIONS
Guests are to use and operate the electrical, gas, plumbing and other fixtures, appliances and furnishings properly and as otherwise instructed.
OUTDOOR FIRES
There is a place designated for making a campfire. Please keep within reach of children when they are near the fire. Before lighting any fire, check with the office regarding fire regulations, or restrictions. Do not make a large fire that can cause damage to nearby trees and brush. Before leaving the area pour water on all fires, to ensure they are completely out.
BARBECUES
Do not use charcoal briquettes in the Propane Barbecue or there will be a $50 charge to clean the barbecue.
CLEANING
Renter is required to leave the property in clean and neat condition upon check-out. Please leave cottage clean, undamaged and ready for the next guests. Failure to leave the property in clean condition will result in a cleaning charge to the renter. Cottage cleaning required but not limited to: Hard floors- swept Carpeted areas- vacuumed (including all rugs) Kitchen- all appliances wiped off, dishes cleaned, dried and put away, counters and stove tops wiped clean, sinks scrubbed, refrigerator, microwave and stove wiped clean inside and out, any food remaining is to be removed Bathrooms- sinks, bathtubs/showers and toilets are to be scrubbed Bedrooms- comforters, blankets, mattress pads and pillows must be clean, beds must be remade Trash- to be removed from the property at the end of your stay. Please take trash to dumpsters located in the campground. Please remember to turn off all fans, window air conditioners. Also turn off any appliances such as TV, coffee maker, etc. Close and lock all windows and doors before leaving. If you are unable to clean the cottage, you will forfeit your deposit.
PHONE
There is no phone in the cottage. A phone is available at the campground office. Guest may use their mobile phones or a credit card for long distance phone calls.
BUSINESS SERVICES
Fax and copy machines are available at our office for a fee.
LAUNDRY
Guests are welcome to use laundry facilities in the campground utility house. These are coin operated ($1.00 Load). Change is available at the campground office. Please bring your own laundry soap and softener.
MAINTENANCE
All equipment in the cottage should be in working order. Please report any inoperative equipment to our office. Every reasonable effort will be made to promptly repair the same. No refunds will be made for inoperative air conditioners, appliances or for mechanical failure.
ENTRY INTO COTTAGE OR PROPERTY
Entry into cottage or property may be necessary from time to time by authorized personnel. Every effort will be made to minimize these entries connected with repair, care and maintenance of the property.
CONSTRUCTION
We cannot predict construction plans in the area and therefore cannot be responsible for any construction that may be occurring near or on the cottage or our beach. No compensation or moves to other properties will be considered.
DAMAGE
Do not intentionally destroy, deface, impair or remove any part of the Property, equipment, furniture or furnishings.
DEPARTURE
Keep doors locked when out of the property. When departing guests are asked to adjust heating to 55 Deg. and turned off air conditioning. Return the furniture to its original position when checking out, No signs may be posted on any property or lot. Fees and costs incurred due to Guest actions are the responsibility of the Guest.
TERMS
After departure Guests are to check out at the campground office. or, if no office is available, then to forward the Guest checklist to Dolores Rohloff by mail.
ITEMS LEFT BEHIND
We cannot be held responsible for items left in the cottage. Please double check the cottage for personal items prior to departure. If we are asked to return items to you they will be returned C.O.D.
ADVANCE RESERVATIONS
Current guests have first priority to reserve the cottage for next year during the same rental week. Simply return the advance reservation form along with your advance reservation fee of $25 at the end of your visit (after that time advance reservations are taken on a “first come, first served” basis). THE ADVANCE RESERVATION FEE ALLOWS YOU TO HOLD THE COTTAGE IN YOUR NAME FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR AND IS NOT APPLIED TO NEXT YEAR'S AGREEMENT AND IS NONREFUNDABLE. Rental rates and availability are not guaranteed and cannot be confirmed until the agreements for the following year are sent out.
OTHER INFO
Rental fees subject to change without notice. Rental rates do not include Deposits Rental rates do not include $25.00 Advance reservation fee. All information is subject to errors, omissions or revisions and is not warranted.
WRITTEN EXCEPTIONS
Any exceptions to the above mentioned policies must be approved in writing in advance.
